Freudian Slip?

9/20/2013

For what seems like forever, I've been making the same "Freudian slip" over and over again when it comes to a certain aspect of shale-gas drilling.

At first I would say: "No -- that's not the right word..."  But lately I've been feeling that it is indeed the right word, thoroughly accurate and appropriate to the situation.

It's like this. If one is making money from shale-gas drilling, one doesn't want to say anything bad about shale-gas drilling, doesn't want to “bite the hand that feeds you.”

Even if one should happen to notice something that doesn't look or smell right with regard to this drilling, one just looks (or sniffs) the other way, for fear of interrupting that golden flow of money coming in.

And if one's neighbors start asking questions, insinuating that the “gassers” may be responsible for certain local contamination incidents, one tells them that they are foolish, that they don't know what they're talking about, that they had best be quiet. Translation: “Don't mess with my money!”

So it seems that my “Freudian slip” has been the right word all along.

One doesn't receive royalty checks; one receives loyalty checks.

Sorry but I disagree this is not the case for everyone that receives a royalty check- I know many, my husband included that receive royalty checks that are not afraid at all to voice an adversary position. Just because you receive a royalty check does not mean that you agree with what is happening. There is no amount of money that would make me be silent about the deceit, denial, and destruction the industry is causing. Please do not make people more divided if you do, you are only serving the industry and not the people.

WHOA~ Whoa, Whoa……………. Today, we are enjoying the lull in the gas activity in Bradford County. But at the same time I am so nervous, anxious, and most of all freighted. It is like a woman that has been brutally raped, knowing that her attacker is coming back and the attack will be even more heinous than before. Activist, both anti- gas and pro gas (including gas companies) go to extremes appointing themselves as judge and jury. The victims of this “energy development” are landowners that have signed leases, landowners that did not sign a lease, People living among the gas extraction, people receiving royalties. Yes even the people that receive the royalties! We are all victims because we have lost our environment, health, property rights, and social compassion.
Like a woman that has been raped, she fears to come forward. Why? Immediately society becomes judge and jury, making accusations that the victim deserved it, because of the way she dresses or to whom she speaks too.
It is high time activist listen to the Realist. Realists are the victims willing to come forward and share their experience of the crime. It doesn’t mean they are activist. They are simply telling their story. All should identify the attackers and the crime being committed. When that is done we will be able to show compassion towards all of the victims of this gas exploitation. I believe more victims would come forward if they knew they were not going to be judged for what they signed, received or where they live. Do not make the Gas Companies job easier by dividing the communities when we need each other more than ever.
Let’s get past this, so we can start working on the solution.
